BCIT, Building SW3, Room 1750
* Note the different venue for this meeting *
Ever since people have been able to hack embedded devices, people have
been trying to add web interfaces to these devices with some success.
This talk will examine the revolution of these interfaces interfaces
from simple dashboards to larger, more elaborate services which can
deliver specialized geo-specific content to the person who is using
the system. this talk will examine in particular the case study of
FreeTheNet.ca, the local Vancouver Community Wireless Mesh initiative,
and how it used both embedded and web technologies to create a
different type of application.
The next VanLUG meeting is this Monday April 21st, 7:30pm at the Telus Theatre, Building SE6, BCIT Burnaby Campus.
We will be holding our AGM during the first portion of the meeting and will then be moving to the BCIT campus pub for a social evening.
During the AGM portion of the meeting we will be taking nominations for and electing the Board of Directors for the coming year. If you have been looking for a way to get involved in VanLUG and shaping its direction, joining our Board is something you should consider.
Once the AGM portion of the meeting is concluded we will be moving to Prof. Mugs, the BCIT campus pub, for a social evening. VanLUG will be picking up the first round of nachos.
As usual, VanLUG meetings are free and open to all. Please forward this message to anyone you feel would be interested in coming out. That said, only current paid members of VanLUG will be able to vote during the AGM.
The March 17th VanLUG meeting will be a presentation on the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) XO-1.
Where: Telus Theatre, Building SE6, BCIT Burnaby Campus
When: 7:30pm, Monday March 17th
What: OLPC XO-1 presentation
Revolutionary in its quest to bring the benefits of computing technology to the developing world, the OLPC project and it's XO-1 hardware have received a lot of attention over the past several years.
Now that the XO-1 is shipping, a number of VanLUG members have purchased laptops. This will be your opportunity to see if the finished product stacks up to the hype and how Linux and other F/OSS projects have contributed.
The February 18th VanLUG meeting will be a round table discussion on virtualization.
Where: Telus Theatre, BCIT Burnaby Campus
When: 7:30pm, Monday February 18th
What: Virtualization Round Table
The last several years have seen virtualisation technologies take off in the x86 space. A number of competing technologies and approaches have emerged in both proprietary and F/OSS flavours.
Our round table discussion will help explain virtualisation, the different approaches and techniques used, their features, and in what situation a particular approach is best suited.
The round table will include VanLUG members George Pajari, Daniel Dent, and Syv Ritch.
As always everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
