
Robert Arkiletian has been a teacher for 12 years and is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable GNU/Linux experts working for the Vancouver School Board, frequently sharing his experience to mentor
other teachers.
Robert teaches physics, C++, Python and FLTK GUI programming at Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver. In 2004, Robert began using K12LTSP, the Linux Terminal Server Project version of GNU/Linux, in a computer lab he set up and maintains for his students.
He created the British Columbia Free and Open Source Software in Schools newsgroup to promote the use of GNU/Linux in British Columbia Schools, and for the past two years his computer programming students have earned top honours in Western Canada. Robert is married and has two young children.
In 2005 Robert released the first version of a classroom management program. FL_TeacherTool is written in C++ for K12LTSP GNU/Linux, and allows a teacher to broadcast demonstrations to student computers and

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting
of the Vancouver Linux Users Group Society will be held on
Monday 20 April 2009 at 7.30 pm at the
BCIT, Bldg SE6, TELUS Theatre.
The agenda for the evening is:
A) AGM
B) Presentation of the VanLUG Dave Michelson Award.
C) Evening Social: food and beverages at Prof. Mugs pub at BCIT.
All interested people are invited to attend our AGM but only paid
members may vote. Memberships will be available for purchase before
the meeting at the current price of $10.00.
All VanLUG members are eligible to run for the board of directors and
nominations for all positions are accepted from the floor. Board
positions include: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership
Secretary, and any number of member-at-large positions.
We will also be considering the following special resolution to change our name:
"That the name 'Vancouver Linux Users Society' be changed to
'Vancouver GNU/Linux Users Society' and that we change references to
'VanLUG' to 'VanGLUG'."
